A Conversation on Supporting Trans & Queer Clients Through Gestation

Description: Join midwife and trans/queer childbirth educator Ash Dasuqi and MMHN's Alex Villalba in a discussion on the unique experiences trans & queer (QT) folks face while going through pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum, including gender dysphoria, chest feeding, binding, lactation induction, medical discrimination, and more. Explore deeper level considerations when working with the QT community that will enable you to provide more competent care and advocacy in which trans/queer clients may experience less traumatic encounters while receiving more support and validation.

Bio: Ash Dasuqi is a Palestinian trans nonbinary certified professional midwife (CPM) and critical care nurse (RN) who teaches their own childbirth preparation curriculum for trans and queer pregnant folks, support people, those trying to conceive, and birth workers called Embodied Birth. They are also a trans parent who went through pregnancy and birth. They regularly speak and educate to various groups on the topics of obstetric violence, trauma in birth, diversity/inclusion/equity in gestational health, and trans/queer specific content both within and outside of birth & health. Feel free to contact them for speaking at embodiedbirthclass@gmail.com or peruse their workshops and other classes at www.embodiedbirthclass.com including Queer Competency for Professionals.
