April 20, 2021 @ 6:00PM — 7:30PM Pacific Time (US & Canada)
A panel conversation with Andrea Freeman, author of "Skimmed: Breastfeeding, Race and Injustice" along with Wenonah Valentine, Adjoa Jones, and Shamiesha Johnson
Join us for a panel conversation with Andrea Freeman, author of "Skimmed: Breastfeeding, Race and Injustice" along with Wenonah Valentine, Adjoa Jones, and Shamiesha Johnson.
"In Skimmed, Andrea Freeman tells the riveting story of the Fultz quadruplets while uncovering how feeding America's youngest citizens is awash in social, legal, and cultural inequalities. This book highlights the making of a modern public health crisis, the four extraordinary girls whose stories encapsulate a nationwide injustice, and how we can fight for a healthier future."
We will discuss the lasting legacy of racism and injustice on breastfeeding and public health as it applies to Black mothers, birthing people and families today. We will also explore advocacy and systemic changes needed to address inequity today and in the future.
